It’s a new year, and the first month is almost over. What have you achieved so far?
I woke up this morning, with this exact thought in my head. It wasn’t a guilty feeling that came over me, but an excitement on the possibilities I could create. I had started this new year, like so many of you…. In bed not sure how I made it to the new year, feeling like that last glass of champagne wasn’t the best choice. But also with big hairy audacious goals floating through my head.
I knew that this year was going to be the best one yet. At first I didn’t know how I wanted this next year to go. Just knowing that it was going to be amazing. So I wrote down some of my goals and it looked something like this….
I have an amazing year by January 1, 2013 .
If you know anything about goal setting you know that this goal, is in fact, not a S.M.A.R.T goal. It is not specific (what specifically is going to make it amazing?) , it is not measurable (how do you measure amazingness, it means something different to each person), it’s some what attainable , sort of realistic and their was a by when to achieve my amazing year. So I had to go back to the drawing board.
I have an amazing year by January 1, 2013 . I have run the SeaWheeze Half Marathon under 1hr and 35minutes by August 11th, 2011.
VOILA! Specific ( I run the SeaWheeze Half Marathon), Measurable ( I have a certain time I want to run it in) Attainable ( I will run 3 times a week in order to train for it)Realistic (I have done a half in 1hour 39minues, so my body can do it!) Timely( I have exactly 205 days to train for it)
That is where this blog will come in, it will follow our journey to the SeaWheeze Half Marathon. Showing what we did to prepare for it with our training, what we are wearing, how we are feeling, what cross training we are doing and anything that we find interesting along our journey.
